Portugal Match Cup - World Match Racing Tour

Pablo Torrado as bowman
Rubrio Basilio as pitman and tailer
Luis Brito as trimmer
Fede Armeñanzas as trimmer
Manu Weiller as skipper

This is the team for our first WC grade event. Yesterday was the first day of racing, we started with a win against Alvaro Marinho's team, but then we had 4 loses... we had a bad first contact with the SM40 boat, we are the only team that never sailed this boats before, and it looks like we are paying for that on our first time.

The team did an awesome job, and we were really close to win against Mathieu Richard but the photofinish gave him as the winner.

Today we'll start our second journey, we'll improve our boathandling and will fight for every point. We'll have a more positive post tomorrow, for sure!!!

We lost our second final this week...

Everything started fine, we won the first race of the finals clearly.
After that, the wind started to raise, and we arrived to 20 knots.
The portuguese team did a great job in boathandle, much better than us, and no matter if we won the starts, they would pass us and win 3 consecutive races. So we lost another final this week, but we'll keep trying!!!
Thanks for following, we'll be in Portugal Match Cup next week!

We just got into the finals!

After finishing the two round robins in first position, we had to choose our opponent for the semifinals, we chose the russian team that ended fourth in the second stage.
We managed to win 3 - 0 and get to the finals. We are very happy with our performance and are prepared for sailing the finals tomorrow. Our opponent is not clear yet, Alvaro Marinho and Simone Ferrarese are in a tie right now, they are still sailing.
Thanks for following! See you tomorrow!

22nd in the world rankings

After a great grade 1 event, for every crew that is beginning with match race, a big climb shows in the rankings. We managed to end 2nd in Yava Trophy - European Match race Championship, so our ranking improved a lot.

We climbed from 37 to 22. We hope to get some new good results on the rest of our races this year, so our goal could be to end between the 18 first in the rankings this year. That would bring us to great events on 2009.

Let's see what happens...

A nice beginning!

After a tough first day of racing, first results for the qualification stage appear. The fleet was divided into two groups (A and B). In group A, the italian team with 5 wins out of 5 races and the portugese team with 4 wins out of 5 races are in lead. In group B, tie between the croatians and us, with 3 points out of 3 races each.

In our first race ( against german team - skipper Carsten Kemmling) we managed to get real well off the starting line, with a double penalty lead. We were able to keep the advantage until the finish line.

Our second race was much tuffer, Andrew Arbuzov (Russia) got a penalty advantage because we entered the line touching the starting mark, we went to early, and tried to hold as much as posible out of the starting box, we went to close to the starting mark, and hit it with our boom. We managed to get enough space to do the penalty in the first upwind, and things got very close until the finish of the second upwind, there we got a some boatlenghts between the russian team and us, and managed to finish the race infront.

In the third race we sailed against the winner of the last edition, Staffan Lindberg. A close start and a close first upwind, that ended in split at the second half of the leg, as our side went favoured, we got a 4 boatlenghts advantage we kept until the finishing line.
